28/02/10 - First win
of 2010 for Moyers!
Local racing driver Michael
Moyers scored his first win of 2010 on Saturday at Daytona Karting
Circuit, Milton Keynes. He was competing in an event organised to raise
funds and awareness in
aid of the Help for Heroes charity. The event attracted some of the
best racing drivers in the
country and celebrity drivers such as Tom Clarke from The Enemy and
the boy’s from TV’s Dirty
Sanchez. The Armed Forces also had a team of their own, represented
by the 11 signals regiment.
Michael was part of the
Axis Racing team, made up from four other up and coming drivers in
Richard
Puddle, Chris Dymond, Marcus Weller and Michael Broadhurst. In qualifying
all drivers had a chance
to familiarise themselves with kart and circuit and it was Chris
Dymond who put in a super
performance to put in a pole position time, however Axis Racing were
bumped down to 9th on the grid
due to other teams raising more sponsorship.
The race duration was
6 hours and Richard Puddle put in the first stint and went from 9th
to first and
gained a healthy 18 second lead after just 35 minutes. Moyers was
next up to do a stint of 1 hour 10
minutes and set some impressive lap times on route to gaining a 57
second lead. Michael Broadhurst,
Chris Dymond and Marcus Weller were next up and had to tackle some
difficult conditions with it
raining intermittently. Richard Puddle finished a thrilling end to
the race as Axis Racing became under
pressure from 2nd and 3rd place but managed to hang on to win by
11 seconds after 6 hours of racing!
